R U OK?Day was on Thursday the 9th of September 2021

We are busy people and often juggle work, home and school life under one roof; we don’t commute far from home, nor do we engage in the wider community, and socialise as we used to.

This day, R U OK?Day, is on the calendar to remind us all to stop, check-in with the people around us, and be brave and ask; R U OK? Not only can a simple, meaningful question like that change someone’s day, direction and even life, but it will also build confidence and powerful connections between people.

R U OK? is an Australian charity for harm prevention, who encourage people to connect and have meaningful conversations, sometimes in difficult times. R U OK? provides learning material and other resources to help prevent suicide by encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and identify signs of distress, long before they’re in a crisis.

RU OK? Has provided these four simple steps to have a conversation that could change a life, be brave, have a go and ask:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

THIS YEAR THE MESSAGE IS:

Are they really OK? Ask them . Do you know how the people in your world are really going? Life’s ups and downs happen to all of us. So chances are someone you know might be struggling. Your genuine support can make a difference whatever they are facing, big or small.

Are they really OK? Ask them today. Your conversation could change a life.

How Aspirico adopted RU OK?

As a software provider for the disability, mental health and community sector across multiple regions of the world, Aspirico, since its launch in 2006 relied on video conferencing applications to reach and check-in with colleagues in Wales, Ireland, England, New Zealand and here in Australia.

The Virtual Coffee Club is a company-wide virtual forum where the can get together with our international colleagues for a chat, we learn more about each other, where we live, and what we do in our spare time. We make an effort not to talk about work. These coffee chats have seen stronger work relationships and cross-region collaboration.
